About the restaurant and our team
We are proud to be the first member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association in Cardiff and the Vale.
The Gallery supports ethical farming practices. All our fish is sustainably caught & more often than not we even know the captain of the local boat that landed it.
Our care of the environment doesn’t stop with the food all our beers are sourced within Wales and most of our fantastic wines are organic or biodynamic.
The Edwardian building was originally Barry town’s first art Gallery and picture framing business. Purchased in 2000 by our family and was sympathetically renovated and restored to retain many of the fine architectural features of the Edwardian era. These features have been complemented and enhanced by a sensitive use of contemporary additions, the result is a mix of new and old each complementing the other. We offer three separate and individual relaxing spaces, our first floor restaurant for 50 guests that retains an original fire place which warms the diners as they sit below our two original period chandeliers.

our best kept secret the south facing Courtyard garden space for the summer which changes to a heated Marquee for the winter complete with leather furniture, chandeliers and fairy lights

The GALLERY is a memorable and desirable venue whatever the occasion – be it a romantic dinner for two, family celebration or the work’s do. Exclusive use can also be booked for parties, weddings and special events.
With the popularity and profusion of TV food programmes food awareness is a growing trend which the Gallery embraces. We believe in the adage “You are what you eat” and our own original recipes stands shoulder to shoulder with the best.
The GALLERY is about establishing relationships and partnerships with our carefully chosen suppliers, all of whom have been visited by Barney.
We use locally sourced and traceable ingredients where practical and possible, with most of our meat and vegetables coming from within a 10 mile radius of The Gallery.
We employ two professional foragers that scour the countryside and seashore in and around the Vale to provide the taste and flavour of freshly harvested herbs, salad leaf, fungi and fruit that are truly memorable.
FOOD AND DRINK:
You will not find the word Homemade on our menu. The reason is simple -
When you join us for a meal in the restaurant you will be served The Gallery specialty breads as your appetizer accompanied with a delicious dip as well as the ubiquitous olive oil and balsamic.
To cater for all tastes, the ground floor Bar/ Bistro serves a stripped back simple menu as an alternative to our first floor restaurant. It is in the Canteen Bar that you can take advantage of The Gallery Early Bird offer.
Building on the success of our weekly changing seasonal menu of 2 and 3 course meals, we will be launching an all new bigger seasonally driven monthly menu with the addition of daily Specials. The kitchen team is delighted with the customer feedback they have received to date and are working hard to develop a tasting menu for those who want to sample the full culinary range that the rolling menu will offer.
The Gallery has earned a reputation for serving delicious cocktails and locally brewed real ales across the tactile concrete bar. Here you can sit in front of the log burner fire to study the carefully put together wine list which includes our popular house wine served in ½ or 1 litre carafes.
